Ascent Map Overview

Set beneath the floating ruins of Venice, Italy, Ascent is Valorant's most traditional tactical map. Its defining mechanic is a pair of closeable blast doors on each bomb site that defenders can seal to delay pushes. Winning mid control is the single most impactful play on this map, unlocking split attacks and fast rotations that turn rounds in an instant.

Ascent Strategies

ATTACK SIDE

1

Take mid control early to split defenders between A and B. Mid is the most important area on Ascent.

2

Use utility to clear Catwalk and Market before committing to a site push.

3

Default with players watching both A Main and B Main while your mid player gathers information.

4

Fake one site with utility then rotate through mid to attack the other. Ascent's mid enables fast rotations.

5

After planting on B, close the Market door from Switch and fall back to B Lobby for post-plant lineups. Killjoy, Brimstone, and Viper can deny the defuse with molly lineups on the default and Boat House plant spots, making retakes nearly impossible without clearing Lobby first.

DEFENSE SIDE

1

Hold mid aggressively with a player in Market or Catwalk. Losing mid means attackers can split both sites.

2

Use Killjoy or Cypher utility on B site to play retake while focusing players on A and Mid.

3

Close the doors on B site to delay pushes and force attackers to use utility.

4

Stack A site with two players. A Main is the most commonly attacked chokepoint.

5

On eco rounds, stack three players behind the A door with close-range weapons like Stingers or Shorties. Close the door as bait, then reopen it when attackers push A Main. The tight chokepoint neutralizes the rifle advantage.

ASCENT FAQ

Ascent is slightly defender sided. The closeable blast doors on both bomb sites give defenders the ability to delay and funnel pushes, and the strong mid positions favor the defending team. However, attackers who win mid control can flip rounds quickly by unlocking split pushes onto either site.

Killjoy, Sova, and Omen are the core picks for Ascent. Killjoy's lockdown setups on B site let her solo-anchor while the team focuses elsewhere. Sova's Recon Bolt lineups cover both sites from safe positions, and Omen's global smokes are essential for controlling mid. Current stats on Ascent: Killjoy: 53.8% win rate, 12.4% pick rate; Sova: 54.3% win rate, 13% pick rate; Omen: 52.6% win rate, 14.1% pick rate.

Ascent features two closeable blast doors, one on each bomb site. Defenders can activate them to seal off entry points, forcing attackers to either destroy the door (which takes time and makes noise) or rotate to a different angle. Smart door timing can waste attacker utility and stall executes.

Mid is the most contested area on Ascent because it connects to both bomb sites through short flanking paths. Controlling mid as an attacker unlocks split pushes onto either site, while losing mid as a defender means you can be pinched from multiple angles with little time to rotate.
